What does my GPA and Grades mean?

Nepal Examination Board has Started to publish result using grades instead of percentage since 2016. Many of you know your grades and GPA but do you what they mean?

Understanding Your GPA

The Grade Point Average (GPA) system was introduced by the National Examination Board (NEB) of Nepal in 2016 to replace the traditional percentage-based grading system. This change was made to align Nepalese education with international standards and to provide a more comprehensive evaluation of student performance.

Grade Scale

  • A+ (Outstanding) – GPA 4.0 – 90% and above
  • A (Excellent) – GPA 3.6 – 80-89%
  • B+ (Very Good) – GPA 3.2 – 70-79%
  • B (Good) – GPA 2.8 – 60-69%
  • C+ (Satisfactory) – GPA 2.4 – 50-59%
  • C (Acceptable) – GPA 2.0 – 40-49%
  • D (Basic) – GPA 1.6 – 30-39%
  • NG (Not Graded) – Below 30%

Why GPA Matters

Your GPA is crucial for college admissions, scholarships, and future career opportunities. A higher GPA opens more doors for higher education both in Nepal and abroad. Medical and engineering entrance examinations also consider your GPA as part of their selection criteria.
